One year in the market – Europe‘s first fully digital freight forwarder grows by over 50 percent per month

FreightHub, Europe’s first fully digital freight forwarder, looks back on a successful first year. Established by Fabian and Ferry Heilemann, Erik Muttersbach and Michael Wax only twelve months ago, the start-up company today employs over 30 people and grew to over 75 employees as off November 2017. “We combine digital expertise with logistic know-how at the highest level,” says CEO Ferry Heilemann.

To expand its team, FreightHub is currently looking for an experienced Director Global Procurement for freight rate purchasing.

During the first year, as many as 450 FreightHub customers have shipped containerised or palletised break bulk cargo from Asia to Europe.

Exports from Asia to Europe will be added to the company’s range of services as of Q2 2017, allowing customers to ship goods to the 60 biggest ports in Asia from any address in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. Meanwhile, all freight types can be booked digitally – Full Container Load (FCL) by sea or by rail or Less than Container Load (LCL) by sea, by air, by rail or by sea-air.

Says Ferry Heilemann: “Our first branch outside Berlin, which will be opened in Hamburg in May, gives us a presence at the very heart of the German logistic sector. While routes in the digital world are short anyway, we have now optimised those in the real world, too.”

A total of 8.9 million containers (TEU) were handled in Hamburg in 2016, and over 330,000 people work in the logistic sector in the Hamburg metropolitan area.

“Many companies from the logistic sector have contacted FreightHub, which has already resulted in many successful partnerships,” says Michael Wax. “Most established players are open to digitisation, and the exchange is very profitable for all sides.” The company already cooperates closely with the leading carriers and has established a strategic partnership with Reederei Hamburg Süd but also with the customs authorities and transport insurers.

Add to this cooperations in China and India, which help to improve the local handling. The new staff in Hamburg will primarily be tasked with ensuring smooth transactions and perfect customer service.

The company founders are getting ready to manage the fast growth also in Berlin, with room for up to 80 people available in the new office in the German capital. This is where the company’s proprietary logistic platform will be further developed to provide the basis for the future automation of most of the logistic processes.

For this purpose, FreightHub is looking for experienced logistic experts, software developers, operations specialists and account managers. – Interested? Click to check out our current openings.
