Berlin, 3rd of November 2025 – Forto, one of the leading providers of digital freight forwarding solutions, has successfully completed an additional initiative aimed at reducing plastic pollution in waterways. As part of this campaign, Forto financed “Plastic Credits” from Plastic Fischer, an organization that collects plastic waste directly from rivers, thereby preventing it from reaching the oceans.
All Forto customers will receive corresponding certificates recognizing their contribution. In total, Forto distributed credits equivalent to nearly four tons of plastic waste to its customers.
Each year, humanity produces over 430 million tons of plastic. According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), global plastic pollution could triple by 2060 if decisive countermeasures are not taken. In light of the recent inconclusive negotiations under UNEP, it is clear that politics alone is not sufficient to stem the tide of plastic. Forto is taking responsibility and aims to lead by example.
“An increasing number of customers are consciously focusing on resource conservation and are opting for Forto’s sustainability solutions,” says Malin Holm, Company Sustainability Manager at Forto. “For instance, they are focusing on measuring and reporting their transport emissions, or integrate our sustainability programs, such as Forto’s biofuels directly into their supply chain strategy. With our initiative, we aimed to strengthen this commitment while also making an additional contribution to environmental protection.”
The initiative ran from January until September of this year in addition to Forto’s Ocean Plastic Prevention offering. Plastic Fischer tackles river plastic pollution with low-tech, scalable solutions – while also strengthening local communities in the regions of origin.
“Global supply chains are a major source of pollution worldwide; as such we believe that the logistics industry bears responsibility to act more sustainably,” says Guillaume Petit-Perrin, CEO of Forto. “Through our collaboration with Plastic Fischer, we aim to make a concrete contribution and at the same time encourage our customers to continue moving in this direction with us.”
