  • Forto publishes its Sustainability Report for the second year in a row on a voluntary basis

Forto, the leading European digital freight forwarder, today publishes its 2023 Sustainability Report that goes beyond emissions and covers all areas of sustainability including environmental, social and governance topics. It features Forto’s commitment to science-based targets, the introduction of new products and Forto’s progress towards sustainability as a service provider, employer, and partner.

Environmental milestones within the framework of the science-based targets

In 2023, Forto quantified its commitment to protecting the environment by setting ambitious, net-zero science-based targets, in line with a 1.5°C trajectory, thereby implementing the requirements of the Paris Agreement. Unlike non-science-based targets, SBTs demonstrate concrete, public and verifiable sustainability commitment. Forto commits to reducing absolute scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) 90% by 2050 from a 2021 basis, thus setting an example in the highly polluting logistics sector.

Forto’s integration of sustainable practices in its business strategy and operations resulted in tangible outcomes. In 2023, Forto caused 154,009 t CO2e total emissions. Until 2030, Forto aims to further reduce our footprint to less than 119,873 t CO2e to act in line with our near term science-based targets. In 2023, Forto empowered 70% of its customers to take climate action, choosing from an expanding range of sustainability solutions that now extend beyond emission management to include Ocean Plastic Prevention, a new product launched in 2023 that underlines Forto’s comprehensive approach to environmental sustainability. Last but not least, Forto doubled the amount of customers shipping with biofuel in 2023.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

With 33% of leadership roles held by women and an ongoing commitment to close the gender gap, Forto is setting standards in corporate inclusion. The report details efforts to maintain less than a 1% gender pay gap.

Forto introduced a new system for whistleblowing in 2023, developed with privacy and security at its core. Operated externally, this system is specifically designed to protect personal data, enabling users to raise concerns without fear of compromise. In 2023, no case of discrimination was reported.

Forto has doubled the share of employees with equity ownership in the past two years from 20% in 2021 to 40% in 2023.
